The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of

Good morning! and Happy Valentines Day!

Hope you all have something good planned for this day to remind us to love. If you are flying solo in the romance department this year, I ask you to have an all by yourself date day. God loves you, He truly does, He wants what is best for you and one of those things is to take care of you, so set a little budget, go splurge on a pedi, a mani or a facial, and maybe even find a friend celebrating alone and go to a movie.

Of course, at my house, this is mine and Andrew's 34th Valentine's Day and every year looks different. This year, he (and Robert) are laying new flooring in the stairwell to the basement, and I am probably making him homemade caramels before the day is over. There have been years we have went out, there have been years we haven't done much, and then like this one, there are years that we are getting something done that I wanted done. This is love.

When I was young, I worked at the Greenup DQ. I worked with a lady named Janet. Janet was on her second marriage but I had known her when she was in her first marriage. I knew she was so much happier with the second. We always had the radio on in the back and one day this Carly Simon song came on. I was 19-20 and still looking for the fireworks and fields of blooming flowers in a relationship. Janet told me that day, it was one of the most real songs there was. At the time, I thought nope, I am going to find a love that there is fireworks for 50 years. And then I grew up. When I met Andrew, there was most definitely fireworks. Most people know we knew each other for a few years, I was attracted to him from day 1 and turns out he felt the same, so when we started dating, that just solidified what we knew and we went to Kentucky and got married 6 weeks to the day after our first date. Over the years, we have very much became the song. I will be the first to admit there are days he annoys me to death, but I know the feeling is mutual. We have been through both of us being hard to live with but we are still in it together and when we get a chance to get away from life for a day, there is only one person I want to do that with, and that is Andrew. I will let you in on something else. I prayed that God would have Andrew ask me out. Our relationship started with God. We had discussions when we were still just friends about being saved and I knew before our first date that he was a Christian. I know that is the key to our longevity.

So, let's get into the actual Bible Study

Today, let's look at 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Highlight= Love never fails. Explain= The song I mentioned talks about the kind of love that looks like a dream, the kind that feels cinematic, exciting, dramatic. But the Bible describes something much deeper. Real love is patient, kind, not self-seeking, not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, endures. Dream love is emotional, Biblical love is durable. Apply= This Valentine's Day, ask yourself, "Am I chasing a feeling or building something lasting?" "Does my love reflect patience and kindness"? and "Is it rooted in commitment? or convenience" The world sells "spark", scripture calls us to substance. The stuff dreams are made of isn't butterflies, it's character. Respond= Lord help me always pursue love that reflects You; steady, faithful and enduring. May my love be patient, kind and rooted in truth.

So, I am going to leave you with that song today, my friend Janet passed away a few years ago, with her husband Chris at her side, demonstrating that slow and steady fire. Obviously, this song always reminds me of her. She and Chris were Christians, and I know that the love they felt on earth will be recognized when Chris gets to Heaven. That my friends is love.

Finding Joy Again

Happy last Saturday of 2025. I am actually quite happy to see this year come to an end. I am a firm believer that every day is a new beginning but sometimes we need the gift of a new calendar starting and to be able to close the door on the past. This has been an incredibly rough year in so many areas. There are years that things may be rough at work, but not so much at home or with friends, and vice versa, this year, the hard times seem to be coming from every direction. Last night, I was visiting with Robert about having joy. He made the statement that I always seem to have joy and I hadn't really thought about it but I realized he was right. I am definitely not always happy, but joy is not happiness. I feel joy is that ultimate peace and contentment that can only be found through that strong, stable relationship in Jesus.  Psalms 16:11 says, "You make know to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy". I decided as this year ends and the new one b...

Biting Your Tongue

Good Saturday morning! It is a little before 5 and I have a lot going today because I didn't get everything done this week, so here I am. I have my list and if everything goes as planned, I should be able to relax about 6 tonight, but if it goes as planned, I also should have most of tomorrow afternoon to rest before another big week. I got a kick out of a recent Lowe's commercial I saw where all these guys were getting their Saturday projects wiped out so they could have their Sunday's. Those Sundays that all I have to do between church services is my normal getting ready for the week stuff (clean out my car, my purse, lay out my week's clothes, make sure the car has gas, and is washed) those are really nice days. And hopefully tomorrow will be one of them. This week we are talking about the tongue. One of the main causes of sin, in my opinion. What would a world be if people never said mean things to one another? What would the world be if people never said things th...

Temptation

Happy Saturday! We made it once again! What is going on at your house today? We have a workday and I am dreading the work but excited about the possibilities of what we are going to get done. Our carport is a disaster, I have some touchup work to do on the paint in the family room, I bought a new table that needs put together and I want cup hooks put in my coffee cabinet. Praying we get it all done today! This week's Bible study fits in really well with trying to be healthy, we are talking about temptation. We are ready for James 1, verses 12-15. 12  Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 13  When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;  14  but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.  15...
